Digitize Your Cassettes in Switzerland

From VHS tapes, and top printed photos and cassettes, we bring your past back to life in a digital format.

Analog and digital video cassette systems are outdated technologies that have not been supported for more than a decade. In practice, this means that the devices are no longer commercially available and replacement parts are no longer manufactured for them.

For this reason, it is  safer and more practical to transfer the contents of your cassettes to external hard drives as soon as possible in digital format.

Preserve What Matters Most

Also, keep in mind that tape cassettes are not eternal. Over time, they lose their magnetism, and humidity in the air can cause them to mold and stick together. Extreme temperature fluctuations are also harmful to cassettes, so it is safer to store them at a constant temperature in vacuum packaging whenever possible.

Restore and save old photos! Whether the image is faded, discolored, black and white, incomplete, stained, or fragmented, we can fix the defects.

VHS digitalization

Of course, VHS tape digitization is our most sought-after service, due to the golden age of VHS over the past 40 years. Who doesn’t remember video store movies, shelves full of tapes, and watching Titanic or Rambo over and over again? Many of us feel quite nostalgic when we think back on those images.

Retro is booming, and with it comes the real thrill of reliving, say, your favorite movie from 20 years ago, or your family memories, or your video recordings of significant life events.

We’ll let you in on a secret: all you need to digitize VHS is a player, cables, an external video card, a computer, and some software. However, if it’s a one-time thing, it’s not worth the time, money, and energy invested; it’s better to outsource it to an external service provider. It’s no exaggeration to say that every household today has a few videotapes waiting to be digitally reborn. Am I right in thinking that you have a few of these treasures too? Leave it to us!

About us

Our company has more than 20 years of experience in the field of filmmaking; we started with cassettes and continued with memory cards. It would be an exaggeration to say that we were born in the golden age of filmmaking, but we are passionate about our profession and have lived through several technological eras, all of which have contributed to our professional development.

The era of VHS tapes and players is a thing of the past, but we are aware that for many people, their fondest memories date back 10-20 years, when we bought our first small handheld video camera and recorded events such as Christmas family celebrations, grandma’s birthday, the birth of our children, the receipt of their excellent report cards, and so many other defining life events…

With us, you can relive your memories from many years ago that have almost been forgotten. We guarantee that there won’t be a dry eye in the house! 😊

Videotape digitization

Here’s an interesting fact: there are two types of video cassettes: those with two or three magnetic layers, which can hold up to 120 minutes of recorded material, and those with one magnetic layer, which can hold up to 240 minutes of recorded material.

It is best for videotapes to be stored at room temperature in a place that is not too humid.

If they are not stored in such conditions, the tape may become flattened and thus unsuitable for digitisation.

The life of your tapes

As already mentioned, the lifetime of a video cassette depends on many factors:
– Wear on the magnetic tape, i.e. how many times have you played it?
– What is the humidity in the storage room?
– Is the room ventilated?
– How much heat fluctuation is there? I mean, you’re not storing it in an unheated attic where it’s + 50 degrees in the summer and – 10 degrees in the winter, are you?

What we strongly recommend:
– Keep your tapes after digitisation.
– Store them in an airtight box at a constant temperature.

What’s certain is that your videotapes have their days numbered. The players operate to a 40-year-old standard, which is getting worse as time goes on. Players that wear out often jam the tape. As a result, the signal-carrying capacity of the tapes decreases year after year. With each playback, the number of picture errors increases. Among other things, VHS tape is fundamentally fragile: it moulds, wrinkles and is sensitive to magnetism. Many poorer quality tapes become unwatchable by the age of 10, so there is no question that digitisation is the solution.

The dangers of hard disk

Copying your tapes to a hard drive brings new dangers. Like any electronic device, it will eventually deteriorate, so the wisest thing to do in the near future is to store your movies on at least 2 hard drives. If you can, copy your videos to an SSD, as it has fewer moving parts than an HDD, with less chance of failure, which should result in a longer lifespan.

At your request, we’ll keep your digitised footage for up to 3 months, so your footage is safe with us. During the 3-month period you are guaranteed not to lose your footage, but we recommend that you play it safe and back up your videos to as many storage devices as possible to avoid any inconvenience later.

Privacy and security

Our family memories are personal and private, so it’s important that they stay that way. Our technician will record the media on an encrypted offline drive. We allow one week after delivery of your order for you to back it up, after which it will be permanently deleted from our system.

Of course, we will keep the content of your videos confidential until then, and will delete them from our computers immediately upon your request after a successful copy.

It is inevitable that we will not check the files you have created, but we guarantee you in writing that we will not store your downloaded material on our hard drives in the future.

Even at home, we recommend that you always keep your recordings in a safe place, making sure that they do not fall into the hands of unauthorised persons, as this will save you a lot of inconvenience later on. In the digital world, it can often feel as if you have no privacy, but there is actually a lot you can do about it. With a little care and a few adjustments, you can minimise the risk of data theft.

The VHS tape digitisation process

Digitising VHS tapes is a simple process, especially if you leave it to professionals. With the right tools and professionalism, we guarantee high quality and speed. If you want to relive your treasured tapes, preserve them for your grandchildren, and preserve them for posterity, digitising is the best choice. Digitisation ensures that your memories can be preserved for the long term.

All you have to do is bring your collected VHSs to our studio in person or send them to our address. To facilitate post-production and easier identification, please write an address on the tapes if possible. Once the digitisation process is complete, we will forward the recordings to you under this name.

After digitisation the recordings are saved on a Cloud or on a USB-stick and are ready for delivery. At the end of the process, you will be notified when we have completed the tasks and post-production work you requested. An online link will be sent to you by email, where you can download the digitised recordings quickly and easily, and your cassettes will be posted back to you later. You can also pick up the finished footage in person at our office and we can give you the files on a USB-stick.

The process is simple, if you entrust us with your recordings we guarantee that we will help you with everything. We look forward to hearing from you at any of our contact details.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Our customers said:

“I managed to open, play and save all the recordings. Thanks again for all your work and professional help!”

“First of all thank you very much for the fast work! I am very happy that we managed to save this old family memory!”

“The digitised recordings turned out great. Thank you very much for your work so far, I’m very pleased. There will be more tapes in the future. 🙂 ”

Why digitise your tapes?

As has been mentioned many times, the digitisation of cassettes is also important because of the gradual loss of quality due to the use of state-of-the-art technology and magnetic tapes. However, with digital technology, it is possible to convert the content on cassettes into a digital format, so that the content can be preserved over a longer period of time without deterioration in quality.

If you have important or valuable content on your tapes, such as family memories, music or other personal recordings, digitisation also makes it easy to share and back up your tapes.

Digital formats also offer many advantages over cassettes. Digital files are easy to manage and share using computers, smartphones and other digital devices. They also offer a range of options for those who want to improve the quality of their recordings, trim or edit them.

All in all, this service can be an important way to preserve your valuable content and enjoy it in digital format over the long term.
